Sahwa Net- Two U.S. human rights groups filed a lawsuit against the U.S. administration in an attempt to stop plotting to assassinate the Untied States-born Anwar al-Awlaki.
The Center for Constitutional Rights and the American Civil Liberties Union filed the lawsuit after they had a license from the Treasury Department to represent the father of Anwar al-Awlaki, citing that the permission will allow them to fight a larger legal battle over policies they say target US citizens outside a war zone without due legal process.
With permission in hand, the groups said in a joint statement that they would “pursue our litigation relating to the government’s asserted authority to engage in targeted killings of American civilians without due process.”
