A senior leader of the Islamist Islah
Party, Ali Ashal, escaped on Friday an assassination attempt of Ansar
Al-Sharaia ( Supporters of the Islamic Law)in Aden, and two of his escorts were
killed.
Ali Ashaal who is deputy chairman of
the Islamist Islah Party in Abyan and a lawmaker previously escaped four assassination attempts
and his son, Abdul-Hakim, was killed in Sana’a.
The
reasons behind Ashaal, as some analysts say, that he formed a popular front to
resist Ansar in Abyan, the birthplace of Ashaal. He managed to prevent Al-Qaeda
from expansion in some districts of Abyan governorate.
Armed men who were believed to be
operatives of Ansar Al-Shariah group connecting to Al-Qaeda shot fire on Ashal
while he was coming back from the Friday prayer in the city of Aden.
Yemeni politicians said that the Al-Qaeda
often target the Al-Ashaal tribe to which Ashal affiliates, pointing out that
the Al-Ashaal tribe boldly encountered Ansar Al-Shariah and has repelled the
terrorist organization.
They further said that the Al-Ashaal
tribe strongly stood against the regime of the former president Ali Abdullah
Saleh and his wrong policies.
