Alsahwah.net- Yemen's
Defense Ministry has stated on Sunday that most leaders of al-Qaeda were killed
in the southern governorate of Abyan.
The ministry said in its online site that most
veteran leaders of Al-Qaeda killed and others escaped to other governorate.
Meanwhile,
clashes have been continuing between Ansar Al-Shariah, al-Qaeda-linked group
and the Yemeni army in the outskirt of Zinjibar.
Local
sources affirmed that the Yemeni army could capture large parts of the town
that has been considered the main stronghold of Ansar Al-Shariah.
The
Defense Ministry affirmed that it will expand it operations to purge Abyan of
Al-Qaeda, ensure the return of the displaced persons, and resume security and stability
to the city.
Military sources had said President Abdu Rabo
Mansour Hadi ordered to send military reinforcements to fight Al-Qaeda amid an
objection to use US
drone in the military attacks by some members of parliament.
Gerald Feierstein, the U.S. ambassador to Yemen, during a press conference at
the embassy on Sunday attributed the army’s progress to changes made by
President Abdurabu Mansur Hadi in the military’s leadership.
