Alsahwah.net - The cabinet approved on Tuesday referring
the draft law of transitional justice to President Abdu Rabo Mansour Hadi,
according to the article 2 of the implementing mechanism of the GCC power
transfer deal.
The cabinet justified the referring
of the draft to Hadi as the cabinet did not reach reconciliation on the draft.
The aim of the transitional justice
law is to uncover the truth and make reparations for victims.
Political parties, civil society
organizations, unions and youth took part in the discussions that led to the
draft.
According to Minister ofLegal Affairs Mohammad Al-Mekhlafi, the main
purpose of the transitional justice law is to end conflict between Yemenis through
compensating the victims of local crises that occurred between 1994 and 2012,
while maintaining the immunity clause included in the Gulf Cooperation Council
power transfer initiative.
Transitional justice laws were
applied in some countries such as Morocco, South Africa, and Indonesia in the
wake of sectarian, ethnic or political conflicts. Through this law, it is hoped
that conflicting sides will reach a settlement in a period of political shift.
