Over 2000 landmines rooted up from Abyan

Alsahwah.net- Local sources in Abyan Governorate have said that over 2000 landmines implanted by Al-Qaeda militants were rooted up from A byan governorate.

Governor of Abyan Jamal al-Aqel highly appreciated efforts exerted by field teams to remove the landmines, stressing that he will do  best to help the internally displaced persons to return to their homes.

According to Yemeni officials, landmines which the jihadists laid in Abyan before fleeing have in the past 10 days killed 27 people in the provincial capital Zinjibar and eight more on the outskirts of the town of Jaar.

Abyan governorate witnessed violent clashes between the Yemeni army and Al-Qaeda militants who were dislodged from Abyan.
