Alsahwah.net- Yemeni senior cleric and the former
endowment minister Hamoud Al-Hitar has called Ansar Al-Sharia, an al-Qaeda-linked
group to give up weapons, and end fighting and suicide bombings in Abyan and
Shabwa.
He said the suicide bombings are not Jihad,
stressing that they contradicts tradition of Islam, the state-constitutions and
laws.
He affirmed that Al-Qaeda and its
suicide bombings damaged Yemen, killed Muslims and make foreign states under
the pretext of fighting terrorism.
The Yemeni army has been carrying out
an offensive against Al-Qaeda strongholds in some towns of Abyan since May 12.
It aimed at reclaiming Zinjibar and other localities in Abyan lost to Al-Qaeda
during the past year.
