Tensions witnessed inside 3rd brigade

Alsahwah.net- The 3rd Republican Guard Brigade positioned in mountains surrounding the capital Sana'a has witnessed tensions between the newly-appointed commander Abdul-Rahman Al-Halili and the commander of the Republican Guard Ahmed, a son of former president Ali Abdullah Saleh.

According to a Yemeni newspaper, Akhbar Alyawam, two military units of the 3rd Brigade rebelled against the orders of Al-Halili, pointing out that the heads of the units said that they only take direction from Ahmed Saleh.

The newspaper quoted well-informed sources as saying that the air defense unit of the brigade was completely withdrawn from the brigade under orders of Ahmed Saleh and without the approval of Al-Halili, pointing out that the unit includes 700 officers and soldiers.

Officers of the 3rd brigade including the nephew of Saleh, Tariq, had rebelled against a decree of President Abdu Rabo Hadi and prevented Al-Halali of receiving the command of the brigade until a rebellion was carried out by some other officers and handed over the command to Al-Halili.

Meanwhile, a high-ranking military commander of the Republican Guard, Murad Al-Awbali, is still being heldby soldiers from  the Khawlan tribe.

The soldiers said they kidnapped al-Awbali in protest at not giving their salaries after they declared their support to Yemen's revolution.

The soldiers had declared their support to the Yemeni peaceful revolution after they refused to take part in the crackdown conducted against the uprising that overthrew the former president Ali Abdullah Saleh last year.

Military sources said the soldiers had been ordered to return to the brigade to receive their salaries, and they had refused to do so while Saleh's son, Ahmed, remained in charge for fear of disciplinary action.
