1518 landmines that were planted by Al-Qaeda militants in some districts of
Abyan were get rid of on Wednesday.
Governor
of Abyan Jamal Al-Aqel along with local officials and military commanders
attended the getting rid process, pointing out that dozens of civilians were
killed as a result of landmines planted by Al-Qaeda.
He called
all locals of Abyan to unite and align together to reconstruct their regions
and maintain stability and security across Abyan.
Landmines
planted by Al-Qaeda still hinder work and recovering of essential services in
Abyan.
Approximately
200.000 persons were displaced from Abyan due to conflicts between the Yemeni
army and Ansar Al-Sharia. They were forced to live in a number of schools and
other government facilities in the neighboring governorates of Aden and Lahj.
