Dozens of Houthi rebel fighters were wounded as their surprise attack on army posts in Meedi in the northern province of Hajjah failed on Wednesday morning, military sources said.
Fierce clashes broke out between the armed forces led by the commander of the Fifth Military Region, Major General Yahya Salah and the rebel militiamen in Al-Katef area, south of Meedi town after the army had to repel a Houthi attack.
The rebel militiamen were forced to retreat, leaving behind seven of their comrades dead and dozens others wounded.
For its part, the Arab Coalition fighters carried out four air raids on the reinforcements and gatherings of the militia, leaving heavy losses in their fighters and hardware.
