HR Minister: Houthis killed, injured 40,000 persons since coup d'état

Minister of Human Rights Mohammed Askar said Houthis have killed and injured 40,000 persons across Yemen since they mounted a coup d'état in the capital Sana'a in September 2014.
Askar made the remarks in a speech in a seminar organized by the Ministry of Human Rights in cooperation with the country's permanent mission in Geneva on the sidelines of the 37th session of the Human Rights Council.
He said that the Iran-backed rebels have killed 13,389 persons and injured 27,452 others. The killed include 1353 children and 842 women. By landmines alone, he said, Houthis killed 439 and injured 1377 others including women and children.
He said that the child fighter recruitment in the ranks of the Shia Islamist rebels rose ten times its rate in 2016. "The Houthi militia destroyed the underground infrastructure, bombed houses places of worship, and public and private properties." He said the militia "violated childhood by recruitment of child fightersm killing, disfiguring and denial of children the right to education and healthcare."
