Alsahwa Net- The Prime Minister, Maeen Abdulmalik, said on Wednesday that the Houthis created the fuel shortage to escape the implementation of the United Nations (UN) mechanism on the fuel imports.
He explained that the Houthis did so to return to the smuggling of Iranian fuel and use the revenues of the fuel sales for financing their war against the Yemeni people.
Abdulmalik said this during his meeting on the same day with the UN Special Envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffiths.
He affirmed on the need for a clear position by the UN towards the Houthis’ act.
The UN mechanism on the fuel imports demands that revenues of the sales must be spent on monthly payments of public servants.
He said that the government does not accept dropping of the agreed mechanism.
He demanded a strict response by the UN envoy.
“The UN and its envoy must take a clear position towards the Houthis’ use of citizens’ sufferings by deliberately creating the fuel shortage to flourish the black market,” he said.
He indicated that the government attempts neutralization of the economy using all means, but the Houthis responded with defiance and banned circulation of the new printed-notes of the national currency and obstructed disbursement of monthly payments to the public workers in the Houthis-held areas.
