The situation of children in Yemen signals the approach of a disaster, the Minister of Social Affairs Ebtihaj al-Kamal told the official news agency "Saba" on Monday 20 November the internationally celebrated date as the Children's Day.
She cited as such signals the increased recruitment of child soldiers and child dropout and truancy from schools turned to military posts by the radical rebel militias of the former dictator Ali Saleh and his extremist Shiit allies of Houthis.
She appealed on the Children's Day for an international concern to the blight of Yemeni children "who are killed, displaced and recruited to fight in the ranks of the Houthi-Saleh militias."
She pointed to the militias' infusion of school textbooks with an extremist content that promotes sectarian hatred and violence as one of the several violations of child rights. She said the militias have "violated all the laws that provide for the rights of children."
