Militias of the Houthis and ousted President Ali Abdullah Saleh has stated that the UN Special Envoy to Yemen met Hisham Sharaf as a foreign minister, not as an official of the General People's Congress.
Ould Cheikh had remarked that he met Sharaf as an official of the General People's Congress, pointing out that the international community only recognize the legitimate government of President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi.
The Yemeni government on Tuesday officially objected the meeting of the UN Special Envoy Esmail Ould Cheikh with Hisam Sharaf who was appointed by ousted President Ali Abdullah Saleh as a foreign minister
The Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Yemen Abdul al-Malik al-Mikhlafi told the government-run Saba News Agency that the meeting of Ould Cheikh with some people in Sana'a contradicted his obligations.
Al-Mikhlafi, said in a press statement the UN envoy’s meetings in Sana'a were unacceptable and inconsistent with his obligations as an envoy.
U.N. special envoy to Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed arrived on Sunday in Sana’a where he is expected to meet with representatives from the Houthis and former president Ali Abdullah Saleh’s supporters as part of his tour to push Yemeni parties to accept the eighth ceasefire, ahead of reviving a new round of negotiations.
