MASAM: 122,000 mines removed since mid-2018

Alsahwa Net- A Saudi-funded project known as MASAM that works for clearance of landmines in Yemen said on Thursday that total removed landmines since June 2018 increased to 122,000 mines.
Around 1,668 landmines were cleared during the first week of this year’s January.
These cleared landmines include antipersonnel mines and antitank mines that were planted by the Houthis militants in various parts of the country.
Security officials of the Yemeni government and MASAM say that majority of the mines were placed in residential sites including homes, schools, farms and public roads.
The 1,668 recently removed mines included eight antipersonnel mines, 741 antitank mines, 18 explosive devices, and 901 unexploded ordnance, according to a statement by MASAM.
Houthis-planted mines were disguised in various forms that killed and injured thousands of women and children.
Hundreds of civilians were maimed by blasts caused by landmines planted by the Houthis militants across the country.
