Alsahwa Net- The United Nations (UN) Special Envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffiths renewed on Monday evening his call on parties to the conflict in Yemen to reduce escalation and renew their commitment to a peaceful resolution of the conflict.
“The Yemeni people deserve better than a life of perpetual war,” Griffiths wrote on his Twitter account.
This statement by Griffiths coincides with renewal of fierce battles between the government’s forces and the Houthis rebels in various fronts particularly in Nehm, east the capital Sana’a, Marib, Al-Jawf and Al-Baida.
The government threatened this week failure of the Stockholm agreement on Hodeida that it signed with the Houthis one year ago.
Griffiths said that the parties in Yemen promised more than a year ago to keep Hodeida safe, to use Hodeida port revenues to pay salaries and to return the detainees to their loved ones.
“They must fulfil these promises and build a conductive environment for the peace process,” said Griffiths.
