Alsahwa Net- Senior American officials said on Wednesday that their country supports Yemen’s unity and President Abd Rabo Mansour Hadi.
This was voiced by senior US officials at a press briefing on humanitarian assistance to Yemen.
Such statements coincide with declaration of self-rule of south Yemen by the Aden-based separatists known as the Southern Transitional Council (STC).
Timothy Lenderking, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Arabian Gulf Affairs, who attended the briefing said that all parties in Yemen must support the legitimate government.
He added that the Al-Riyadh agreement represents the sole solution for the ongoing dispute to support the humanitarian situation in the country.
Lenderking affirmed support to Yemen’s unity and President Hadi and called on the STC to cooperate for implementation of Al-Riyadh agreement.
He indicated that formation of a national unity government can contribute at addressing needs of the Yemeni people and ending the conflict.
The USA announced on Wednesday $235 million assistance for food aid programs in Yemen.
However, American media outlets quoted US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo that this fund will go to the UN food programs in south Yemen.
The US officials cut last March fund for humanitarian aid to the Houthis-held north Yemen citing Houthis’ hinderance to deliver essential aids to the needy people.
Matt Nims, Deputy Director of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), said that the Houthis place several hurdles to the delivery of humanitarian aids to the affected people.
