Alsahwa Net-The Governor of Marib, Sultan Al-Arada, launched on Thursday starting of the Marib gas power station following five-year shutdown.
Technical teams finished early May repairing of the station and electricity wires from Safer to Marib.
The station which entered service in 2009, is the first gas-powered plant in Yemen and it was shut down following the Houthis’ coup.
It was established to reinforce the national power grid with new 341-megawatt output.
It was designed with 400 KV-high pressure power transmission lines from Safer in Marib, Bani Hushaish of Sana’a to Ma’abr of Dhamar.
Marib has become a central refuge for millions of Yemenis who were forced to flee home to escape intimidation by the Houthis rebels who captured Sana’a in late 2014.
This flow of people to Marib increased the population density which in turn raised the demand for electricity.
The restarting of the Marib gas power station will cover the shortage of power supply to the household growing demand.
