Alsahwa Net-Undersecretary of the Health Ministry, Abdulraqeeb Al-Haideri, cautioned on Tuesday against dangers of the coronavirus on thousands of detainees in Houthis-run prisons.
Al-Haideri said that the virus has already spread among inmates of the Central Prison in Sana’a.
It is alarming as the general immunity levels of the detainees reduced dramatically as a result of catching several diseases for being confined for long-time in crowded detention facilities, Al-Haideri wrote on his Facebook page.
He said that for this reason, the virus is expected to take a heavy toll on the detainees’ health.
He demanded exercising more pressures on the Houthis militia to release detainees with no conditions.
The Abductees’ Mothers Association appealed last Thursday for saving lives of the detainees in the Sana’a Central Prison following reporting of three suspected Covid-19 cases in the prison.
However, the Houthis continue banning entry of foods and medicines which is being brought by families to the detainees, according to the association.
Several local and international human rights organizations warned about serious risks of the Covid-19 on safety of the detainees in the Houthis-run prisons.
