Alsahwa Net- The government of Yemen held on Friday the Saudi-led coalition responsibility towards the separatists’ rebellion in Socotra archipelago.
The separatist Southern Transitional Council (STC) seized on Friday the security headquarters in Hadibo capital city of Socotra following armed clashes with the government’s forces.
In a press statement published by the state-run Saba news Agency, the government said that the STC’s takeover of the state offices in Socotra and attacks against the civilians represent a grave aggression and a bold rebellion against the legitimate authority.
It indicated that the escalation in Socotra coincides with ongoing Saudi efforts towards implementation of the Al-Riyadh agreement intended to end the STC’s rebellion in Aden.
“While the government deals responsibly with the Saudi efforts to pressurize the STC to reverse the announcement of self-administration, the STC responded with another rebellion in Socotra and continuation of military escalation in Abyan,” the government said.
It demanded a swift action by Saudi Arabia as its forces are stationed in Socotra and therefore, they are expected to halt the STC’s assault against the people of Socotra.
It said that Socotra has been one of the safest places in the world and that the STC’s persistence on sparking mutiny will fail.
