Presidential advisor Abdulmalik al-Mikhlafi said the international community stopped the government’s efforts to liberate Hodeidah some years ago using the same pretexts and argument that the UN Undersecretary for Humanitarian Affairs Mark Lowcock and UN Special Envoy Martin Griffiths used in the Security Council’s session today.
In a tweet, Al-Mikhlafi, said the international community “obstructed the operation to liberate Hodeidah and restore it to the legitimate government” using “the same exact argument and sometimes the same words that Mark Lowcock and the UN Special Envoy used today.
The liberation was stopped, but “neither the humanitarian situation improved nor peace materialized,” he said.
“The Yemenis are not waiting for the UN to continue to provide the aid or express its ‘concerns’ regarding the humanitarian situation because of the designation of Houthis as a terrorist organization. What the people want is to stop the war through implementing the UN Security Council resolutions. And through forcing the Houthis who triggered the war and keep perpetuating it [to adhere to the resolutions].”
