Fayez Ali dances with five friends in their neighborhood in a countryside in Amran governorate, north of Yemen's capital Sana'a, as fireworks light the background on the eve of the 60th anniversary of Yemen's 26 September Revolution that overthrew the Imamite (theocratic monarchy) and led to the creation of the current day republic.
Fayez, whose real name is kept confidential upon his request, said the celebration of this national day is "a great risk due to the unfortunate coincidence of the Houthi militia, the Imamite's heirs, being back in control of Amran and most of north Yemen."
"The Houthi grip is so oppressive, yet people take risks and display their happiness with the revolution anniversary," he says. Some celebrants in Sana'a city and elsewhere were arrested after a storming of their houses.
"Our forefathers were ready to face the danger of the S*au*di -backed Imamite monarchy, and they finally won. It is no secret that history is repeating itself today. It is repetition in its entirety and we will conquer Houthis and their backers!" he says with brows furrowing.
