Freed Yemeni Journalists Urge UN Chief to Ban Houthi Leaders from Oman Talks Over Torture Claims

Four Yemeni journalists, recently released from Houthi militia prisons, have appealed to UN Secretary-General António Guterres to prevent two senior Houthi leaders - Abdulkader Al-Murtada and his deputy Murad Qasim - from participating in Oman talks on detainees and missing persons due to their involvement in torture and human rights abuses.
The journalists, who suffered over 8 years of systematic torture in Houthi jails, said that allowing these leaders to participate in UN-backed negotiations would undermine justice and human rights principles.
They demand Guterres take immediate action to ban Al-Murtada and Qasim from talks, issue official condemnation of their abuses, refer their case to UN torture and enforced disappearance mechanisms, and ensure victim representation in future negotiations
